Welcome

We are currently on another long distance hike, and the third leg of our "triple crown", the Continental Divide Trail (the "CDT"). Come along with us if you can - if not in person then by following our grand adventure via our "posts from the trail".  Check out our Flickr Photos, which we'll update periodically, and see it through our eyes!

Our Credo...

"Success: To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!" ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Firday April 30 – Warner Springs – The Legs Were Defeated

Today we took a vote, and the feet won. We are staying another day in Warner Springs at the hot spring resort. The legs voted to hike, the upper body abstained and for while it was deadlocked at 4 to 4 (the Carrot and my feet all for staying and all 4 legs for going.) Then the toes showed up just before the polls closed and it became a landslide 24 to 4 victory for da’ feet. You might say: “the legs were de-feeted”……

By taking a day off (or a “zero day” as it is now called) we “shuffled the deck.” Which is to say that we will be hiking with at least some different faces tomorrow. Some of the hikers we have seen regulary moved on this morning, so they will be a day ahead, some also took a zero day and will match our pace, others have arrivd today and will leave tomorrow at the same time we do. It wil be a whole new mix, sort of a hiking version of the childhood classic “duck, duck, goose….” Of course at the next town stop it will be some one else’s turn to shuffle and we will all play with new partners again…

Among the this afternoon’s arrivals were Conner, Marissa, Lindsey and Squeek, who we met on the first day from Campo and saw at the kick off. They now have the trail names (respectively) of: “Reverend Gizmo”, “Curses”, “Road Rash” and “Squeek”

It was a nice reunion, time to compare notes and stories of highs and lows, of common challanges and unique opportunities and to generaly marvel at what a difference a day makes in the trail experience.

Then we ate, drank and soaked in the the hot water……….
