Contacting Us On the CDT
We will be remote but in touch.
The easiest way to stay connected is to follow our progress on our website. Background information, maps, and occasional photos will greet you. A trip report summary will be posted about every 7 to 10 days and a “daily journal” will be posted as possible. To read these items, go our website www.walkingcarrot.com and sign up for the RSS feed, or if you prefer just check in periodically. You can also leave public comments on our blog. Or, if you prefer you can email us directly. I will be using a “pocketmail” device; this will be the best way to contact me via email. Using it I can download emails from any phone (landlines) including payphones and motel room phones. It is TEXT only, no attachments come through. The address is:
Note the similarity to my hotmail address! Speaking of hotmail, we will still have hotmail and yahoo email accounts, but they are not the best way to contact us as frequency and duration of internet access will be very limited. We will probably have limited access to hotmail about once every 2 weeks or so, but in some cases it may be longer, so do not expect a quick response:
walkingcarrot@hotmail.com
nowhere_man97@hotmail.com
hough_phil@yahoo.com
If you need to get a (relatively) quick response, our cell phone is the best option. I should be able to check its messages about every week to 10 days. The number is 208-946-9127. If you are planning to connect with us on the trail and an emergency arises, leave a detailed message on the cell phone.
Letters, post cards, care packages and whatever else you can think of can be sent to us at one of our mail stops. We will have eight places where we will pick up supply boxes and check for mail. Mail can be sent to us by sending mail to our home in north Idaho. Mail sent to this address will wait until we return or be forwarded to us in the next supply box that is sent out by Trish or my parents, our house sitters. This may take up to 4 to 6 weeks from the time you send your letter until we receive it:
Phil Hough OR Deb Hunsicker PO Box 393 Sagle ID, 83860
Mail may also be sent to us directly on the trail. Be sure to read the following mailing instructions very carefully. The post offices where we will stop for mail are all highlighted in bold on the itinerary. Address any letters, post cards, packages or correspondence as follows:
Phil Hough OR Deb Hunsicker (Use BOTH names – it makes collecting mail easier) C/O General Delivery Post Office Name of Town, State, Zip Code “Hold For CDT Thru-Hiker” Estimated arrival date (see agenda below and add this information)
Be sure to mail things at least 2 weeks in advance, but not more than 5 weeks before you anticipate we will arrive somewhere. We could be as much as a few days early or late; some places have very slow service and the post office is not obligated to hold items past 30 days.
