Sept 11th
We listened through the open windows of our hotel room to the sounds of heavy rains on the metal roof, thankful to be inside, beyond their reach.
We have a leisurely day to organize our resupply and to rest and eat. Around mid day we are happy to see Trainwreck, Strut and Little John. They are arriving from a layover day in Seattle and getting back on the trail. We compare stories and get caught up as well on the other people they have seen. Since they will be a day in front of us and plan to arrive in Canada a couple days befor us, the occasion now is both “hello and goodbye”. An occasion of excitement, nostalgia and tinged with some sadness. The reality that our hike will soon be over and that we wil not see some of our trail friends again is setting in on everyone.
Later in the afternoon we head to the Chevron mini-market next door for snacks and run into One Gallon and Fritz who have just hiked in to “town.” We chat with them while they use our room as a base to sort through their re-supply boxes. Once they are organized, they head back out to the trail.
Later on Sasquatch arrives and checks in. Mad Monte, hard at work in Olympia has Sunday off so he drives up to spend the evening and hang out with the hikers. Fortunately for us we are able to give him a short list of supplies that are hard to find here in Snoqualmie, like “heet” and tortillas.
