Thursday – April 29
Around 5am, I awoke from a dream filled with images of water, not an unusual thing after several days of desert hiking. But lying there, semi-coherent, I realized that I was actually hearing running water. I got up to investigate and the creek that had been bone dry the night before was now gushing away at several gallons per minute.
We had a short day, only 4.5 miles to the road and another 1.5 to town, but a very scenic one, rolling hills, fields full of grasses, rock formations, very pastoral. The final mile or so was along a splendid creek with many oaks and song birds, very much coastal California…especially with the heavy “Marine layer” type clouds that rolled in last night and covered the sky until noon today, keeping things damp and cool.
We took the rest of the day off to relax and enjoy the comfort of the facilities at Warner Springs resort. More details about that are to be found on our “trip report” page.
