We went into the Bob Marshall Wilderness area (“The Bob”) anticipating potential problems with still lingering snow, raging creeks, and tough terrain. The Bob was challenging, but not as brutal as we expected.
True, we had a number of icy streams to ford, but few were more than knee high. We carried the ice axes but never had to get them out on this stretch. Oh, there was plenty of snow to negotiate, but none of it was steep.
Yes, and the Bob was wild – we saw two herds of Mountain Goats, a herd of Elk, a brown colored Black Bear, and lots of White Tailed deer. …
Due to problems with snow and permits, we started our trek at Many Glacier instead of the Canadian Border. Oh, we’ll come back and do the part we missed later. In fact it will make a Grande Finale to our CDT adventure. Starting the trip in Glacier is a bit like having dessert first. Glacier will certainly be one of the highlights of the entire CDT. We are having dessert now, but have set aside the icing for later.

Anyone who has visited our site in the past will no doubt notice the major changes in the layout and design. We’re currently doing a massive overhaul and re-design of our site, in preparation for our rapidly approaching hike of the CDT (Continental Divide Trail), slated to begin later this month.
For the first time we’re going to attempt “live” updates to the site from the trail, as often as technology permits (meaning, as we get to areas where we can get internet and/or phone service). We’re planning to post blog entries via email, and possibly also some podcasts or other downloadable audio updates as well.
